Baggett Music Studio

Baggett Music Studio is in the process of moving from the Bryan/ College Station area.  Unfortanately, we are unable to accept any new students at this time.  We refer you to Suzan Langston, at Suzan's School of Music, or Brazos Valley Music Teachers Association.  Thank you for your understanding.  May the music never cease to play!

Welcome To Baggett Music Studio

Just as every student learns through different methods, every teacher teaches through different ways.  Below you will find a description of my teaching methods.

I firmly believe that attempting to instruct piano, or anything for that matter, through harsh and rigid techniques yeilds nothing.  You may find a student that has learned music, but chances of finding one that has both learned and enjoyed learning it are rare.

Playing the piano is much more than striking keys with your fingers, reading music, or learning theory.  Music must come from within.  Feelings are just as an important part of music as reading it, playing the correct notes, and learning theory and timing.

I believe that while having a set curriculum is important, having fun while learning is also a key ingredient for success.  I strive to make learning to play the piano as much fun as it can be for the student, whether child or adult, but the ultimate result is up to him or her.

I am always open to hearing from my students.  Teaching piano is not a one way street.  I need for you to be involved as much as possible to make this learning endeavor a success.  I do my best to be available for you.  Do not hesitate to contact me.  I welcome you to Baggett Music Studio.  Now, lets go learn to play the piano, and have some fun along the way.

What Programs are offered?

As a member of MTNA (Music Teacher's National Association), TMTA (Texas Music Teacher's Association, and BVMTA (Brazos Valley Music Teacher's Association), I offer students many program opportunities.  From performing at state and national conventions, to local Hymn and Solo Festivals, students always have something to be working toward. Students also have two opportunities to take the state theory (Whitlock) test each year.  While participation in the various events is not a requirement, it is highly recommended.  As students continue along their musical journey, more opportunities will become available, such as possible scholarships and monetary awards from the local, state, and national associations.  There are many other events and opportunities available to students, both through Baggett Music Studio and the music teachers' associations.

What about Recitals?

Yes, I do have recitals.  I like to have two recitals a year.  The Christmas Recital and Spring Recital are both in conjunction with Suzan's School of Music's Christmas and Spring Recitals.  The Christmas Recital and Spring Recital/Awards Ceremony are held together at a local venue, usually a local church.

* Please note: Baggett Music Studio is not a part of Suzan's School of Music.  We simply join our students together for recitals.

What's a Coke Party?

We try to have, what we call a coke party every quarter.  It is a "recital" just for the students.  Each student prepares a piece, just as they would for a recital.  The students play for one another.  During this time, we learn different aspects of performing for a group.  We then play music/theory games and have light refreshments.  Most of the games we play during this time are games the students have created themselves in Theory Camp, during the summer.

My kid has gone PRO?

PRO stands for Practice Reward Outing.  Each student has a monthly goal to work towards.  Students must pass a certain number of Exercise Book songs and Method Book songs, a Theory Lesson each week, in addition to their monthly minute practice goal.  The next month, all of the students that successfully meet their PRO goals, will be taken out for something fun.  Examples include but are not limited to, putt-putt, concerts, trips to Gattitown, bowling, skating, or movie/game night.
